We are beginning a critically needed affordable home ownership project in Sylmar. Several community concerns come together in this Los Angeles neighborhood, making it the ideal focus for a homeownership project that provides self sufficiency training and empowers the future of some of our most deserving citizens: veterans and families of the fallen.
Bringing together veteran-owned businesses through such groups as Veteran and Military Business Owners of America (VAMBOA), veteran volunteers from such groups as Team Rubicon, caring corporate citizens and veterans who are wanting to help build a home for their families, a small supportive neighborhood of homes can be built in an enriched context that offers special training designed to assist families in reconnecting with life at home and a future of possibility, economic growth, and wellness.
This exciting project will also bring our already green affordable housing model to a new level of sustainability. All 12 homes will have the newest most efficient products. We are currently searching for a Solar Energy partner, which will help our families save on electricity bills. Our upgraded Urban Community Garden is designed to have even more areas for fruit and vegetables. Families will also benefit from the upcoming expansion of the Sylmar Metro Station and the Los Angeles City Enterprise Zone.
