On Friday, March 1, Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys will be presenting their Hammer of Hope award to KHTS AM 1220 owners Carl and Jeri Goldman, along with the Southern California Gas Company at their annual Habitat for Hearts Heroes Ball. The 2013 Habitat Hearts for Heroes Builders Ball will be held at the Universal Sheraton in Universal City.  The event, chaired by Doreen Shine, will begin at 6 p.m. and is black tie optional. Habitat for Humanity’s UCLA Youth United Chapter received a grant from the Community Service Commission of UCLA Student Government  to continue with the Homework Help program at the Habitat for Humanity Pierce Street Villas Community in Pacoima. The UCLA Habitat of over 50 active members will provide all the materials (curriculum, writing utensils, etc) to teach and supplement the homework that the children have for the week. This is offered to the Habitat families as part of Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys’ Enrichment program. Home Depot, lead sponsor of Habitat for Humanity, San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys’ Habitat for Heroes’ Veteran home repair program, helped change the life of a Vietnam Vet Saturday, January 19, for Lancaster City’s MLK Day event. Home Depot has sponsored and helped repair over 10 Veteran homes in North Los Angeles County through this ‘Critical Home Repair/Disability Modification’ program over the last year. The MLK day of service veteran, Robert Primeux, was recently honored in Washington, D.C. at the Vietnam Wall Celebration as one of the few remaining 100% disabled veterans in the Vietnam Conflict.
