Planners Say Yes to Habitat Housing for Veterans

The Habitat for Humanity people will have to dig some holes in the ground first – but at a discounted cost of less than $5,000, that’s not a big deal when you’re talking about building 87 affordable homes for returning military veterans and their families. The Santa Clarita Planning Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the SCV Habitat for Heroes project, a community of 11 one-story houses and 76 duplex units to be built on Center Pointe Parkway next to Bowman High School. On Friday, March 1, Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys will be presenting their Hammer of Hope award to KHTS AM 1220 owners Carl and Jeri Goldman, along with the Southern California Gas Company at their annual Habitat for Hearts Heroes Ball. The 2013 Habitat Hearts for Heroes Builders Ball will be held at the Universal Sheraton in Universal City.  The event, chaired by Doreen Shine, will begin at 6 p.m. and is black tie optional. UCLA Habitat Chapter to ‘Enrich’ Children’s Lives in Pacoima

Habitat for Humanity’s UCLA Youth United Chapter received a grant from the Community Service Commission of UCLA Student Government  to continue with the Homework Help program at the Habitat for Humanity Pierce Street Villas Community in Pacoima. The UCLA Habitat of over 50 active members will provide all the materials (curriculum, writing utensils, etc) to teach and supplement the homework that the children have for the week. This is offered to the Habitat families as part of Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys’ Enrichment program. Home Depot Helps 100% Disabled Vietnam Veteran in Palmdale

Home Depot, lead sponsor of Habitat for Humanity, San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys’ Habitat for Heroes’ Veteran home repair program, helped change the life of a Vietnam Vet Saturday, January 19, for Lancaster City’s MLK Day event. Home Depot has sponsored and helped repair over 10 Veteran homes in North Los Angeles County through this ‘Critical Home Repair/Disability Modification’ program over the last year. The MLK day of service veteran, Robert Primeux, was recently honored in Washington, D.C. at the Vietnam Wall Celebration as one of the few remaining 100% disabled veterans in the Vietnam Conflict. Northrop Grumman Gives Hope to In-Need Veterans in the Antelope Valley

Northrop Grumman helped change the life of one disabled veteran Saturday, January 19 and will help other low-income veterans in the Antelope Valley in the coming months. As part of the City of Lancaster’s MLK Day of Service, Northrop Grumman helped volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys’ with a Critical Home Repair/Disability Modification on a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran’s home in Palmdale. This effort to serve veterans with housing services is Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV’s “Habitat for Heroes” program.
