Wednesday, March 20, Warner Bros. came out to the Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys’ Sylmar Habitat for Heroes site to help construct a new neighborhood for very low-income veterans. More than 30 Warner Bros. employees came out to show their support for our country’s veterans while getting their hands and clothes a little dirty. The 2012-2013 school year has been a busy one for the Nickels for Nails/Dollars for Doors school fundraising program. So far, four schools in Santa Clarita, one in Palmdale and two in the San Fernando Valley have completed or are planning on participating in this fundraising drive. Currently, Plum Canyon Elementary has raised over $500 for Habitat veteran homes in Santa Clarita, leading the way for Habitat for Humanity youth fundraising in North LA County. Other schools who are helping Habitat make homeownership possible are Pico Canyon Elementary and Harvard Westlake. Friday, March 1, Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys (SF/SCV) raised over $250,000, netting over $210,000, for their special Habitat for Heroes veterans program at their annual Habitat Hearts for Heroes Builders Ball. Nearly 500 people came to the Builders Ball, an annual fundraiser for the Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys at the Sheraton Universal on Friday, to support the cause of local veterans. The event, which was emceed by singer/actress Melora Hardin of “The Office” fame, and chaired by Doreen Shine, raised more than $250,000 for a unique, first-of-its-kind housing project that is planning 87 homes for veterans in Santa Clarita. “That money is going to build at least a couple of home for veterans,” said Donna Deutchman,  CEO of Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valley.
