The mission to serve is not over for Marine veteran, James Allison. Over the past four months, Allison has been serving as a Mission Continues Fellow with Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV, assisting with veteran homeowner recruitment and volunteer services. The Mission Continues is a non-profit organization that awards community service fellowships to post-9/11 veterans, empowering them to transform their own lives by serving others and directly impacting their communities. Anheuser Busch Helps Build Alongside Two Future Veteran Homeowners

Saturday, April 20, Anheuser Busch came out with over 20 volunteers to help build the Sylmar veteran community alongside two of the future homeowners, Jose Castillo and Manuel Montenegro. Both post 9/11 Veterans will be moving into 2 of the 12 new homes for veteran families less than a year from now.   Now finished with the retaining wall, Anheuser Busch is looking forward to sponsoring the community again this summer with a ¼ house sponsorship, and coming out to the community for a third time to frame walls on the two story, 4 bedroom homes. Habitat for Humanity Brings Healing Art to Bowman High

Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys (SF/SCV), as part of their Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative and their Enrichment Services program has partnered with A Window Between Worlds (AWBW), to bring healing art workshops to the students at Bowman High School in Santa Clarita. Over the last 7 weeks, over 500 Bowman High students have participated in more than 31 AWBW class sessions focusing on topics to help students express their emotions through art. Classes included: Stepping Stones, Examining Relationship Collage, My Relationship Boundaries Revealed for Teens, The Reasons Why we Smile, A Book About Me, Funeral of I Cant’s, and more. Santa Clarita City Council Gives Green Light to Veteran Families

Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys received the final green light from Santa Clarita City Council Tuesday night to build its 87-home Habitat “Enriched” Neighborhood for veterans and their families. This comes as great news not only to Habitat for Humanity but for the five local veteran families who are already pre-approved to move into this community and 20 in process. At the Tuesday meeting, Santa Clarita City Council made final approvals to change the zoning for the property where Habitat for Humanity, in collaboration with the California Department of Veteran Affairs, will be building the affordable veteran-specific community, known as “SCV Habitat for Heroes”.
