Habitat Home Empowers Rafael to Realize a Family Dream

Rafael Angulo and his family of six lived in a crowded mobile home, where four people had to sleep in the same bedroom. As the sole income source for his family, Rafael worked steadily for 24 years for a faucet company. In order to make ends meet, Rafael took a second job as a maintenance worker in his mobile home community. Working two jobs allowed Rafael to provide for his family, but he was unable to save and invest in the future.

Rafael applied for a Habitat for Humanity home and was accepted. The Angulos met all the requirements, including working 500 hours on the home construction. Their new home provides more space, privacy and security.

Receiving the new home with a low, fixed monthly payment allowed Rafael to start his own business, Angulo and Cordova, an auto repair shop. He still works a full-time second job, but hopes business will build steadily. Rafael is now able to save for future expenses. When asked how he planned to use his savings, his daughter interrupted from the next room. I want to be a doctor she said. Rafael just smiled.
