This month Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV would like to recognize two outstanding volunteers who spend many hours at our Habitat for Humanity ReStore: John Reynolds and Joey Ristine! John has been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV for over 8 months, he first heard about Habitat through his nephew’s school, Taft High School, and their community service program. John loves working in the store, he loves all of the different people he meets and getting to know the area while helping the ReStore truck drivers do pick-ups around North Los Angeles County. John has also volunteered at several of the build sites, helping our Site Supervisor, Steve Mercado with everything from carpentry, to painting to masonry. John loves volunteering and … Read More …

North Los Angeles County’s youth are pulling their resources to prove that kids can raise funds to build a Habitat home. Calabasas High School and St. Mary’s School in Palmdale have recently wrapped up their Nickels for Nails/Dollars for Doors fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys (SF/SCV) last month. The two schools combined raised over $600 for veteran housing in North Los Angeles County. This will go towards the $100k fundraising goal that the schools in North LA County are working towards raising to fund a “Youth United” house in one of the Habitat for Humanity Veteran communities in Sylmar or Santa Clarita. Schools that have also completed the Nickels for Nails/Dollars for doors fundraiser include Pico … Read More …

The Harold Edelstein Foundation has given Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV the opportunity to assist several low-income veteran families through our enrichment programs and our Veggies for Vets build. Several months ago, with the help of the Harold Edelstein’s Foundation, Harold’s Help Desk, we built over 15 raised vegetable gardens for 10 veteran centers and shelters in Santa Clarita and the Antelope Valley. This year, with the we are expanding this model to be used in our two new veteran-specific “enriched” communities being built in Sylmar and Santa Clarita. We will be building urban gardens for the families to plant vegetables, fruits, and herbs. We will also partner with other organizations who will teach Healthy Eating/Active Living workshops to our families … Read More …

Citibank provides $110K sponsorship to build veteran housing and provide financial literacy programs to low-income veterans and their families in Santa Clarita Habitat for Humanity’s plans for 99 new “enriched” homes for low-income veterans in Southern California marched ahead smartly in March when Habitat for the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys raised $210,000 at its annual Hearts for Heroes Builders Ball. The new three-and-four bedroom homes will be built in northern Los Angeles County – 87 in Santa Clarita and 12 in Sylmar.
